Black Pepper is pungent and heating , with a pungent vipaka (Post digestive taste). It decreases vata and kapha, and increases pitta. It is useful for digestion, cough, worms and promoting health to the lungs and heart.
1. For hoarseness of voice, try ¼ teaspoon of black pepper powder and 1 teaspoon of ghee. Eat this slowly, after lunch and dinner.
2. For cough, try ¼ teaspoon of black pepper powder and 1 teaspoon of honey after food.
3. For chronic fever, make a tea of 1 teaspoon of holy basil (tulsi) and 1 cup of hot water. Add ¼ teaspoon of black pepper powder and 1 tea spoon of honey. Take this 2 or 3 times a day.
4. Diarrhea can be helped with 1 cup of lassi and 2 pinches of black pepper powder, stirred together and taken twice a day.
5. For long abdominal pain, try a mixture of a pinch each of black pepper. Take this orally as well as applying it to the affected area.
